Urinary incontinence · Seoul, Korea

Urinary incontinence in Korea:first name the leak, then the treatment.

Coughing, running or standing up and finding wet underwear is common after childbirth or with age. It is not one disease. At Trinity in Gangnam, two female OB-GYN specialists separate stress leakage from urgency before anyone talks about a sling.

A mini-sling is for selected stress incontinence. It is not the answer to every leak.

Why women search for this

“I leak” is a symptom, not a diagnosis.

“I leak when I cough, sneeze or jump.”

That pattern often points to stress urinary incontinence. A sling may be discussed after tests—not automatically.

“I suddenly have to go, or I leak before I reach the toilet.”

Urgency is a different pathway. Medicine, bladder training or other care may fit better than a sling.

“Will vaginal tightening stop the leak?”

Not by default. Tightening and a midurethral sling treat different structures.

What treatment can mean

Trinity’s Korean sling page describes a short mini-sling for selected stress incontinence.

The Korean service explains a midurethral tape that supports the urethra, often under sedation, in about 15 minutes, with a small vaginal incision and same-day or overnight discharge after voiding is checked.

TOT and mini-sling are not interchangeable labels. Suitability depends on the leak pattern, examination and, when needed, urodynamic testing. Urge-predominant incontinence is not treated as a sling problem.

Pelvic-floor care, medicine or a sling?

Pelvic-floor exercise / conservative care

Often the first discussion when leakage is mild or recent. It does not lift a urethra that needs mechanical support.

Mini-sling / midurethral sling

A tape supports the urethra in selected stress incontinence. Trinity describes a shorter mini-sling pathway alongside conventional TOT-style surgery.

Vaginal tightening or laser

May be discussed for laxity or tissue quality. Leakage still needs its own assessment.

Search terms such as “bladder leakage”, “urine leak when coughing” and “stress incontinence surgery” often belong on this page. Confirm the type of leak before comparing prices.

Ask how the leak was classified before you ask the price.

How much is incontinence surgery in Korea?

Quotes follow the method, tests, anesthesia and whether you stay overnight. Korean national insurance can apply after urodynamics for eligible residents; international coverage is separate.

How long is recovery?

Voiding, bleeding and pain are checked before discharge. Heavy lifting, baths, sex and hard exercise wait for medical advice—not a fixed internet timeline.

How long should I stay in Seoul?

Same-day discharge is common, not a promise you can fly at once. Confirm the first voiding check and a contact route home.

Do not assume a Korean insurance package applies to a short-stay visitor. Ask for an itemized estimate after examination.

How to find usMeet the doctors
  1. Share the pattern

Cough, exercise, urgency, nighttime trips, births, prior surgery and medicines all matter.

  2. Have a gynecologic exam

Urethral support and pelvic floor are checked. Urodynamics may be recommended before a sling.

  3. Compare only matching options

You should leave knowing whether exercise, medicine, a sling—or no procedure—fits the findings.

  4. Plan voiding checks around travel

Ask about the first follow-up, flying after anesthesia and what to do if you cannot empty.

Urinary incontinence in Korea — FAQs

Is every leak treated with a sling?

No. Stress, urge and mixed leakage need different plans. A sling is for selected stress incontinence.

Is a mini-sling the same as TOT?

Both support the urethra with tape. Length, approach and mesh amount differ. The method should match your exam, not a brand name.

Will vaginal tightening stop bladder leakage?

Sometimes both issues exist. Tightening is not a substitute for a sling assessment.

Can I try exercise first?

Yes, when leakage is mild or you prefer conservative care. Failure of exercise does not automatically mean surgery.

How much does sling surgery cost in Seoul?

Tests, method, anesthesia and stay change the quote. There is no honest one-price list.

Does Korean insurance cover it?

For eligible residents, coverage can follow urodynamic criteria. Visitors should not assume the same benefit.

How soon can I fly after a mini-sling?

Only after voiding is safe and warning signs are clear. Same-day discharge is not fitness to fly.

Can I write before I travel?

Yes. Use the consult form with when you leak and your dates. The final plan still needs an exam in Seoul.

Tell us when it leaks. We will not start with a product name.

A female gynecologist can separate stress leakage from urgency so you are not offered one operation for two different bladders.
